Established in 1976 and covering 175 sq km, Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is Nepal’s first Ramsar-listed wetland and one of South Asia’s most celebrated birdwatching destinations. Situated in the floodplains of the Sapta Koshi River in eastern Terai, this reserve is a sanctuary for both endangered mammals and over 500 species of birds, including globally threatened migratory waterfowl.
Koshi Tappu’s mosaic of marshes, oxbow lakes, reed beds, and grasslands is a biodiversity hotspot and offers a peaceful, off-the-beaten-track nature experience focused on birdlife, aquatic ecosystems, and wetland conservation.
